Bangladesh Civil Service Vacancies total 3,58,125

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told Parliament on Wednesday that 3,58,125 civil service posts fell vacant in different ministries, divisions and departments.

During the question hour, replying to Kazim Uddin Ahmed, MP, ruling Awami League (AL), he informed the House that, 43,336 Class 1 posts,  40,561 Class-II posts, 1,51,548 Class-III posts and 1,22,680 Class-IV posts were lying vacant.

He said that some of the posts had been filled through recruitment of the 40th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service by the Public Service Commission.

He also informed the House chaired by the Speaker the preliminary tests of the 45th of BCS wass likely to be held in March.

He also said that due to cases pending in  courts, process of preparing the recruitment rules couldn’t be completed for which no recruitment had been possible to fill some of the vacancies and that due to lack of qualified candidates promotion some other posts were lying vacant.

Replying to Jatiya Party’s Mujibul Haque Chunnu, he  said that demand letters had been received to fill  some 5,436 vacant non-cadre posts.

Replying Shamsun Nahar, MP, he said that 15,54,927 officers and employees were in the government’s payroll, 4,04,591 of them or 26 per cent – women.

No quota is reserved for women in Class-I posts, but some posts are reserved for them in grade 13 to 20, he said.

He also informed that the draft of “Civil Servants (Code of Conduct) Guidelines, 2022” has been sent to the Law Ministry for vetting after getting clearance of the Secretarial Committee on Administrative Reforms. It would be published in the gazette after approval by the Law Ministry and the Prime Minister.
