Ex-Mayor of Habiganj arrested in murder cases: Police

Selim, also an AL leader, was shown arrested in 2 separate murder cases



Habiganj, Sept 18 - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained former Mayor of Habiganj Municipality and Organizing Secretary of the District Awami League Ataur Rahman Selim and later handed him to police.

RAB-2 and RAB-9 conducted a joint operation in the Dhanmondi area of Dhaka and picked up Selim on Tuesday afternoon.

Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said on Wednesday Selim was shown arrested in two separate murder cases filed at Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station after RAB handed him to police.

The murder cases are related to the deaths of two people during anti-discrimination student protests in Habiganj on August 2 and 4. They were shot to death.

Selim has been named as an accused in two cases filed in connection with these deaths, said the OC.-UNB
