Dr. Yunus Calls for Unity for Safe Festival Celebrations

Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus urged citizens on Saturday to foster an environment where all religious communities can celebrate their festivals peacefully, without reliance on law enforcement. Speaking at the Dhakeshwari National Temple during Durga Puja, he expressed gratitude to police and army for their efforts in ensuring a joyful celebration.
“We’ve created conditions for you to celebrate with law enforcement support, but we aspire to a future where this is unnecessary,” Dr. Yunus stated, emphasizing the need for a society where everyone can celebrate freely.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies, including the police, army, and RAB, in maintaining security during the festivities. “Their dedication shows that unity leads to success,” he noted.
Dr. Yunus lamented that depending on security forces for celebrations reflects a societal failure. “We must strive for a society where festivals are shared joyously by all, without needing protection.”
Highlighting the sacrifices made by students and citizens for a new Bangladesh, he reaffirmed a commitment to equality and security for all citizens, regardless of their background. “We aim to build a nation where everyone can pursue their dreams freely,” he said.
With Durga Puja bringing widespread joy, he noted that this festival is celebrated not only by Sanatan practitioners but by all. He discussed ongoing reforms, including the establishment of six commissions aimed at eliminating societal obstacles and promoting freedom of expression and participation.
Dr. Yunus emphasized that meaningful change requires more than just discussions; it demands concrete action and vision. “The commissions will consolidate our aspirations and create a roadmap for reform,” he said.
He urged citizens to seize the moment for transformative change, likening it to holding a “magic lamp” that enables them to shape their future. “Don’t settle for small dreams—aspire for a new Bangladesh and support these reform efforts,” he encouraged.
