It remains unclear who deployed the sound grenade, typically used by law enforcement for crowd control. In response, a team from the Bangladesh Army was deployed to ensure security.
Earlier in the day, protesters from the Shadhinota-Shorbobhoumotto Rokkha Committee (SHAROC) marched from Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University, demanding the removal of President Mohammed Shahabuddin. They faced police resistance near the High Court Mazar intersection but managed to reach Bangabhaban.
After being denied entry, the demonstrators held a rally outside, delivering speeches for about 30 minutes. They vowed to return at 4 PM on Wednesday if their demands were not met.
Meanwhile, another group, Raktim July 24, organized a sit-in with injured victims, expressing solidarity with the call for the President’s removal.
The protests were partly sparked by recent comments from President Shahabuddin regarding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation, which he claimed to have heard but could not verify. His remarks were published in an interview with Matiur Rahman Chowdhury in “Janatar Chokh” on Sunday. Sheikh Hasina has been in India since August 5 amid ongoing unrest.
