The government has announced a new school admission policy for the 2025 academic year
Students from class one to ninth will be admitted based on seat availability, with a cap of 55 students per section. The academic session will run from January 1 to December 31, as outlined in the education ministry's recent directive.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) will oversee the centralized digital lottery process. For schools affiliated with the MPO in Dhaka, the admission fee will be capped at Tk 5,000, while partially MPO-affiliated institutions may charge up to Tk 8,000. English-medium schools can set their fees as high as Tk 10,000. Additionally, development fees in Dhaka-based institutions will be limited to Tk 3,000.
Schools can collect session charges annually following the final exams, but they are prohibited from charging re-admission fees.
To ensure local access, 40% of seats in non-government schools within Dhaka's metropolitan area will be reserved for students living in those localities, with an additional 5% set aside specifically for the children of freedom fighters.
In accordance with the National Education Policy of 2010, children aged 6 and older are eligible for admission. However, applicants must be between 5 and 7 years old as of January 1 and December 31 of the entry year. Verification of age will be required through an attested copy of the applicant's online birth certificate submitted with the admission application.
For students with special needs, age requirements may be relaxed by up to five years, ensuring inclusivity in the admission process.
