Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will thoroughly investigate all allegations related to enforced disappearances and killings, assured its Director General, AKM Shahidur Rahman, on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference at the Media Center in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, Rahman stated, "I guarantee that under my leadership, RAB will not engage in enforced disappearances or killings." He emphasized that the allegations are being taken seriously and are currently being examined by a commission.

"We are fully cooperating with the commission and are confident that legal actions will follow based on the findings," Rahman added.

In response to a question about the potential change in RAB's uniform, Rahman stated that the matter is under consideration. "RAB is governed by its own laws. We are exploring the possibility of creating a distinct law specifically for RAB and will implement necessary reforms based on public and media feedback," he explained.

Addressing recent concerns about misconduct within the force, Rahman confirmed the arrest of 16 RAB personnel involved in alleged mugging and extortion activities since August 5. He pointed out that, since RAB's inception, a total of 58 officers and 4,246 members have faced disciplinary action.

The RAB chief also discussed the challenges encountered by the elite force following August 5, noting that during this period, RAB arrested 14,500 individuals and seized 20,000 illegal firearms.
