There is no security threat in Dhaka surrounding Eid-ul-Fitr, assured DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali on Sunday.
“The residents of Dhaka remained safe and secure throughout the month of Ramadan, and our police forces have effectively controlled petty crimes,” he said while inspecting security measures at the National Eidgah Maidan, the venue for the first Eid congregation.
To ensure the safety of citizens during the festivities, a total of 15,000 police personnel will be deployed across the city. Additionally, the DMP will maintain 667 patrol teams on a daily basis to bolster security.
The city's security will be coordinated by key law enforcement units, including the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), Detective Branch (DB), and the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) units. “The Bangladesh Army and our supporting forces are also involved, working together to establish a secure environment in Dhaka,” Sazzat Ali added.
When asked about precautions to prevent any unrest during Eid celebrations, particularly in relation to political groups, he emphasized that the focus extends beyond any single organization. Efforts are also aimed at thwarting the activities of banned groups to maintain public order.
In a move to ensure public safety during the Eid prayers, all devotees entering the National Eidgah will be required to use the main entrance, where they will undergo a security check at the archway. “We ask everyone to follow this procedure,” the commissioner stated.
Plainclothes detectives and a special police team will be stationed in and around the area, working in coordination with other law enforcement agencies. As in previous years, a dedicated prayer area and gate for women will be available.
The security setup will include a watchtower for continuous surveillance, with police and other agencies closely monitoring the area. The fire brigade and an emergency medical team will be on standby throughout the event.
Sazzat Ali also urged attendees to avoid bringing bags or flammable materials to the venue to ensure the safety of everyone present.
