BGB Launches Drive After Gunfight with UPDF in Hills

A gunfight erupted between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members and armed operatives of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) in Matiranga upazila of Khagrachhari on Monday.

According to Lt Col Khalid Ibne Hossain, Commanding Officer of 23 BGB in Jamunipara, the UPDF members opened fire on a BGB patrol team deep inside the forest of Tongpara under Taindong Union, prompting the border guards to retaliate.

After an exchange of gunfire, the attackers fled the scene, leaving behind firearms and ammunition.

BGB personnel recovered two rifles, one pistol, one shotgun, 16 rounds of bullets, and other equipment from the spot.

No casualties were reported during the clash.

Lt Col Khalid said a special operation is underway to arrest members of the armed group.
