Two new national records on 1st day of national athletics

Dhaka, 23 Dec  – Two new national records have been set on the first day ofTwo new national records on 1st day of national athleticsy.

Mosammat Ritu Akter of Bangladesh Army set the new national record in the women’s high jump event jumping 1.75m after erasing her own old mark of 1.70m in 2021.

Shorifa Khatun, Sumiya Dewan and Borsha Akter of Bangladesh Army set the new national mark in the 4*100m relay women’s event clocking 48.10 second bettering the previous record of 48.29 second set by Bangladesh Navy’s Shirin Akter, Sohagi Akter and Tamanna Akter in 2019.

A total of fourteen event have been decided till 6 pm on the first day with Bangladesh Army dominate the tally with 16 medal including  seven gold, five silver and four bronze medals, Bangladesh Navy following them with 18 medals including  six gold, eight silver and four bronze medals.

Bangladesh Jail stayed at third position in the medal tally with one gold and two bronze medals.

Earlier, Prime Minister's principal secretary and Bangladesh Athletics Federation’s (BAF) president Tofazzel Hossain Miah formally inaugurated the three-day meet as the chief guest, organized by BAF.

Aminul Islam Khan, senior secretary of the Public Security Division of Home Ministry, was present as the special guest.

BAF's vice president advocate Noor Uddin Chowdhury Noyon, MP, presided over the opening ceremony. BAF’s general secretary advocate Abdur Rokib Montu was also present in the opening ceremony.

A total of 362 -- 282 of men's and 80 of women's athletes  -- three divisional sports associations, 20 District Sports Associations, six universities, ten education boards and 37 associations are taking part in this biggest and most colorful sports event of the country.

Cash prizes of Taka 3,000, Taka 2,000 and Taka 1,000 will be given to the first, second and third place finishers of the forty events of the competition while in addition the record holders will have cash prizes of Taka 5,000.
