Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday urged members of the police force to deal with criminals based on their actions rather than their political identities, stressing the importance of impartial law enforcement in a democratic society.

Speaking during Police Week at his office, the prime minister directed senior police officials to ensure that corruption, terrorism, and other criminal activities are treated as offences committed by individuals, not viewed through political considerations.

“Acts of corruption and terrorism should be judged as crimes committed by individuals, not through the lens of political identity,” he said.

Tarique Rahman described the police as “the mirror of the government,” saying public confidence in the administration largely depends on the professionalism, integrity, and conduct of law enforcement agencies.

He said the government is committed to transforming the police into a truly people-friendly force capable of serving citizens with fairness, accountability, and respect for democratic values.

Highlighting the importance of neutrality in public service, the prime minister said no government remains in power permanently and no administrative position is reserved for any individual forever.

“In a democratic system, governments change with time. History in Bangladesh and across the world has repeatedly shown that no position in public administration or police administration is permanent for anyone,” he said.

The premier called on police officials to perform their duties with honesty, professionalism, and impartiality, warning against the misuse of authority or political influence in carrying out law enforcement activities.

He said maintaining public trust requires law enforcers to remain above partisan considerations and uphold the rule of law equally for all citizens.

Tarique Rahman also emphasized the role of police in ensuring national stability, security, and social justice. He noted that effective and sincere efforts by law enforcement agencies would help Bangladesh move closer to becoming a prosperous, self-reliant, secure, and humane nation.

The prime minister further urged police members to strengthen community engagement, improve public service delivery, and maintain discipline and transparency in their work.

Senior police officials attending the programme reaffirmed their commitment to carrying out their responsibilities professionally and maintaining law and order across the country.
