A Dhaka court has placed Saiful Alam Nirob, former President of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, and also a member of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on a three-day remand in a case filed in connection with assaulting policemen and preventing them from discharging their duties.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain of Dhaka passed the order after Md Mahbubur Rahman, Sub-Inspector of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station and also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced him in the court with a five-day remand plea.

In the remand prayer, the IO said Nirob and his accomplices carried out the attack on police with brickbats and also threw crude bombs in front of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) during the party's road march yesterday (Saturday). The attack injured several policemen. So, he needs to be remanded to find out vital clues about the incident, the IO added.

Nirob was picked up on Saturday afternoon from the city’s BFDC area. - Special Correspondent
