As of the latest report, 11,112 arrests have been documented in connection to the clashes and violence surrounding the quota reform movement. A total of 721 cases have been filed, including six new cases within the past day.
Furthermore, 26 additional cases have been registered at police stations in Dhamrai, Savar, Ashulia, Keraniganj, Nawabganj, and Dohar in the Dhaka district. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police reported 32 arrests between Thursday noon and Friday noon, bringing the total arrests in the capital to 3,039. Three new cases were filed within Dhaka city, totaling 275 cases so far.
In Gazipur, police detained 30 individuals, and one person was arrested in Narayanganj over the last 24 hours. This raises the total arrests to 536 in Gazipur and 608 in Narayanganj, with a new case also filed in Narayanganj during this period.
Three additional arrests were made in Chattogram city on Thursday night, although no new arrests were reported in the district. The total number of arrests in the city and district now stands at 992, with 34 cases filed involving 28,200 accused individuals.
Apart from Dhaka and Chattogram, significant arrests were reported in Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Bogura. Rajshahi documented six arrests in the past 24 hours across 18 cases, while Bogura saw eight new arrests and two new cases, bringing the total arrests to 177 under 17 cases.
In Khulna, two arrests were made, bringing the total to 121, and Satkhira reported eight fresh arrests within the last day.
The arrested individuals reportedly include leaders and activists from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and their affiliated organizations. Additionally, leaders and activists from various parties involved in movements with BNP, as well as students, have been detained. Law enforcement authorities maintain that arrests are targeting only those involved in violence and attacks.
The quota reform movement, which began on July 1st, gained momentum following clashes among students at Dhaka University on July 15th. Subsequent days witnessed demonstrations, clashes, vandalism, arson, and fatalities across different parts of the country, prompting widespread arrest operations by law enforcement agencies.
