Along with Rahman, his wife, former upazila chairman Layla Kaniz, was also taken into custody by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The arrest was confirmed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations at DMP, although no further details regarding the couple's detention were disclosed. Both face corruption charges related to the scandal.
Matiur Rahman had retired early last year amid widespread allegations of corruption, following the uproar over his son’s purchase of a Tk 15 lakh goat for the Eid-ul-Azha festival.
