The newly elected members of parliament (MPs) to the reserved seats for women in the 13th National Parliament took oath on Sunday, marking the completion of the parliamentary representation process.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmad administered the oath at the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, bringing the 350-member parliament to its full strength.
The oath-taking followed a gazette notification issued by the Election Commission last Thursday, which declared 49 candidates elected unopposed to the reserved women’s seats.
According to Election Commission sources, 54 candidates submitted nomination papers, including NCP leader Nusrat Tabassum. After scrutiny, 49 candidates were ultimately declared elected.
Among them, 36 candidates are from the BNP alliance, 12 from the Jamaat alliance, and one independent candidate.
With the oath completed, all reserved seats for women in the current parliament are now formally filled.
