Govt keen to maintain relations with neighbours: Fakhrul
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the incumbent government wants to keep relations with neighbouring countries stable and stressed that it will work to resolve the long-pending Rohingya crisis.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters after exchanging views with representatives of different countries and donor agencies.
Mirza Fakhrul said the government is working to address crisis in the energy sector also.
He said the government will start the tender process within three months for energy-efficient gas extraction.
The minister also announced plans to resolve the Rohingya issue. The political scenario has been positive for a long time now, he said.
Earlier, while speaking at a dialogue, Mirza Fakhrul said Bangladesh is now a potential destination for global investment.
“Through infrastructure development, progress in the energy sector and policy reforms, we have created an environment of trust for investors,” he said.
The Institute of Strategy and Tactics Research (ISTR) arranged the dialogue titled “C.O.M.P.A.S.S. Dialogue, Chapter 1: The Western Calibration” at Hotel Sheraton in Dhaka.
Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit also spoke at the dialogue, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Mirza Fakhrul said under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Bangladesh is continuously moving forward on the path of development.
The government is committed to ensuring peace, stability, security and sovereignty of the country, he said.
The minister said the government is working to create a sustainable and investment-friendly environment and all kinds of facilities are being ensured for local and foreign investors.
The active presence of foreign representatives at the event was considered a reflection of the international community's interest and trust in Bangladesh. The participants in the meeting exchanged views on addressing global economic challenges, increasing regional cooperation and creating new investment areas, a handout added.
Local and foreign experts, policymakers and representatives of various sectors, as well as senior officials, diplomats, researchers and other dignitaries were also present at the dialogue, reports BSS.
