Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday announced plans to expand the government’s Family Card programme, saying 50 lakh mothers and women across the country would receive the cards within the next year.
Speaking at a roadside rally in Laksam during his visit to Chandpur, the prime minister said the upcoming national budget would allocate significantly increased funding for the initiative.
“We made many commitments to the people before the election, and we will implement them step by step, Inshallah,” he said.
Tarique Rahman also referred to the government’s pledge to re-excavate canals and improve water management infrastructure, noting that his visit to Chandpur was part of that broader commitment.
The premier is scheduled to attend additional programmes during the tour, including another roadside rally in the Lakshmipur area under Barura Upazila later in the day.
The Family Card programme is aimed at supporting low-income families through subsidised essential commodities and social assistance initiatives.
