Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today said politics is an abode for healthy cultural practice and there is no room for terror and violence in a healthy political culture.

"Politics is a home for healthy cultural practice where there is no room for terror and where there is no room for the criminals and terrorists," he said.

He made the remarks while exchanging views with journalists at the Bagerhat Circuit House auditorium this morning.

The meeting was chaired by Bagerhat district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Rezaul Karim.

Shafikur Rahman said, "Awami League has left countless mothers bereaved, and they have not even expressed regret so far. On the contrary, they are still issuing threats. The time for doing politics in the country has not come for them yet."

Replying to a question from journalists about reopening closed media outlets, he said, "Media is an important part of society. Journalists must play a responsible role in presenting accurate information to the people."

He also stressed the need for ensuring freedom and professional safety for the journalists.

Journalists and media professionals working in different media outlets in Bagerhat attended the meeting and shared their views on various issues.

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Bagerhat district unit, as well as members of parliament (MPs) elected from Bagerhat, were present on the occasion.

Khulna region director of Jamaat-e-Islami Principal Md. Izzat Ullah, Muhaddis Abdul Khalek, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Maulana Mashiur Rahman, Principal Abdul Alim, Monjurul Haque Rahat, and Bagerhat district secretary Sheikh Yunus Ali addressed the conference, among others, reports BSS.
