Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has been appointed as the party’s acting secretary general.
The decision was taken at a meeting of senior BNP leaders chaired by party Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday, according to party sources.
A senior BNP leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the decision would be formally announced by the party later Thursday.
Rizvi has been given the responsibility following the resignation of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as BNP secretary general and a member of the party’s Standing Committee after he was nominated as the party’s candidate for the presidency.
According to sources present at the meeting, Rizvi will serve as acting secretary general until the party’s next national council.
He will also continue in his role as the party’s spokesperson.
