The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called for a 48-hour blockade from Sunday across the country.

In a statement on Thursday, Acting Secretary General of Jamaat Maulana ATM Masum congratulated people for their support in the 3-day blockade programme that ended on Thursday.

He later announced the new phase of blockade for 48 hours.

Maulana Masum said that the government is once again planning to stage an election drama to come to power by undermining people's right to vote, reports UNB.

The government has turned the country into a dysfunctional, failed, and corrupt state with the ulterior motives of clinging to power illegally, and the independence and sovereignty of the country is under threat, he said.

He also announced a nationwide prayer programme on November 3 (Friday) seeking blessings to save the country, said the statement.
