Call for framing a new Constitution

Speakers at the seminar - looking for a second republic in the constitution reform journey at the National Press Club on Friday.



A national seminar titled "Looking for a Second Republic in the Constitution Reform Journey" was held at Jahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of Jatiya Press Club under the initiative of "Sanskar Sangha" onn Friday at 10:00 am.

The seminar held under the chairmanship of Abdul Waheed was conducted by Saad Musanna while Mr. Mahfuz Elahi made the opening statement.

In the speech of the chief guest at the seminar Mahmudur Rahman, the editor of Dainik Amar Desh asked, "Is the current constitution a constitution at all? Or is it Sheikh Hasina's garbage? The reason is that Sheikh Hasina has transformed this constitution into a fascist document. So no democratic state can be established with this fascist document.

He also said "If we go back to the constitution of 72, it is a big question if it reflected the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh".

The seminar as was addressed by Dr. Asma Siddiqa, Former Dean, Faculty of Law, Rajshahi University; Mahmud Reza Chowdhury, American expatriate sociologist; Dr. M Nazrul Islam, Political Scientist, Shahjajal University, Sylhet; Motahar Hossain, former secretary; Professor Dr. Hasanuzzaman, Department of Political Science, University of Dhaka; Shah Abdul Halim, former banker and columnist.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Abdul Latif Masum, former VC, Patuakhali University of Science and Technology. And Dr. Tarek Fazal, Political Scientist, Rajshahi University presented the keynote paper.

Dr. Tarek Fazal raised the question of how to exercise ownership of the people and pointed out that the idea of ​​a republic conveys a sense of something under the king. But the true identity of this should be ‘janatantra’. And it should not be the system of governance of the people but a rule formed by the people. At the same time, a justice-based, knowledge and human excellence and the development of advanced human qualities should be adopted with the participation of all communities taking into consideration the aspirations of the majority of the people.

Dr. M. Nazrul Islam mentioned that there is no conflict between Islam and Bengali nationalism. Even from 47 to 71 no party presented such a statement. It is a statement imposed later.
