Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated on Tuesday that, if elected to power, the party would establish a national government, incorporating all those who have supported its movement.

"We have consistently said that if we come to power, we will not govern alone. We will form a national government, working with those who have stood by us in our struggle," Fakhrul said during his address as chief guest at a discussion marking 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day' at the Jatiya Press Club. The event was organized by the Bangladesh Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad (BSPP).

Fakhrul emphasized that the success of any government should reflect the will of the people. "We want the government to succeed, because their success is our success. But if they fail, we fail as well. We do not want Sheikh Hasina to return, nor do we want the Awami League’s misrule to continue," he added.

The BNP leader reiterated that the primary goal of his party is to restore democracy and create a conducive environment for it to thrive. "We have outlined 31 points of reforms through discussions with various political parties to address the country's democratic deficit," he said.

Fakhrul also criticized the interim government, claiming that its members lack both political experience and expertise. "Politics is a science, and those in the interim government are not political figures. They lack the knowledge to handle the complexities of governance," he asserted.

Referring to the recent student protests at Titumir College, Fakhrul questioned the government's preparedness, asking, "Was there no intelligence about the unrest? Why didn’t they take preventive measures?"

He concluded by calling for a swift announcement of a poll roadmap, which he believes should be preceded by reforms to the police administration and electoral system.

The discussion was presided over by BNP Standing Committee member and BSPP convener Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, with Kader Gani Chowdhury serving as the event's moderator. Other speakers included BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Bangladesh Teachers and Employees Unity Council Chairman Professor Selim Bhuiyan, Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) former president Professor Dr. Azizul Haque, DAB current president Dr. Harun Al Rashid, and journalist Syed Abdal Ahmed.
