A Dhaka court today ordered the arrest of 12 individuals, including prominent figures such as Salman F Rahman, Anisul Huq, and Zunaid Ahmed Palak, in connection with new cases related to crimes committed during the student-led mass uprising in July-August.

The others arrested include former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Nasa Group chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder, lawmakers Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Haque Inu, Desh TV managing director Arif Hasan, journalist couple Farjana Rupa and Shakil Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner of Police Iftekhar Mahmud, and Abdul Malek, an Awami League leader from Pallabi thana.

The court's decision came after police presented the accused before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman, requesting their arrest in multiple cases.

Among the 12 individuals, former law minister Anisul Huq faces arrest in three cases filed with the Jatrabari Police Station and one with Sutrapur Police Station. Salman F Rahman, who previously served as the private industry affairs adviser to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is implicated in two cases related to the Jatrabari area. Palak was arrested in a separate case filed with Jatrabari Police Station.

Former IGP Al-Mamun is shown arrested in three cases, while Nazrul Islam Majumder faces one case related to Jatrabari. Menon, Inu, Rupa, and Shakil Ahmed are each linked to three different cases filed at Mirpur Model Police Station. Arif Hasan was arrested in a case filed with the Kotwali Police Station, while Iftekhar Mahmud was arrested in connection with a case from Kafrul.

Additionally, Abdul Malek, the Awami League leader from Pallabi thana, was arrested in relation to a case filed with the Hatirjheel Police Station in the capital.

The arrests come as part of ongoing investigations into the events surrounding the student protests that rocked the nation last year.
