Bangladesh has officially protested against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent comments, accusing her of making “false and fabricated statements” across various platforms, including social media, which Dhaka claims are "instigating instability" in the country.

On Thursday, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Indian Acting High Commissioner Pawan Badhe to deliver a formal protest note. The note voiced deep concerns over Hasina’s provocative remarks, which Dhaka believes could incite unrest, particularly among the younger generation.

Md Touhid Hossain, Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, told the media that Hasina's statements were seen as “attacking” and potentially damaging to the nation's social harmony. "We will monitor India's response to this," Hossain added, reiterating that Bangladesh has long urged India to intervene and prevent Hasina from making such statements, though no formal response has yet been received from New Delhi.

The Foreign Affairs Adviser also criticized the lack of action from India in previous instances, stating that despite repeated requests, Hasina’s activities have continued without consequence. He further expressed concern over international reactions, hinting that such remarks could escalate tensions, referring specifically to incidents like the destruction at Dhanmondi 32.

In addition to the protest, Hossain also criticized Bangladesh’s deal with Indian conglomerate Adani, which he described as unfavorable and not in the best interest of Bangladesh.

Through the protest note, Bangladesh conveyed its “deep concern, disappointment, and serious reservations” over Hasina’s actions, stressing that they undermine efforts to foster a healthy bilateral relationship between the two neighboring countries. The Ministry called for immediate action from India to prevent Hasina from using social media and other channels to spread what it deemed to be inflammatory and misleading statements.

This protest comes amid ongoing efforts by India to maintain a positive relationship with Bangladesh. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, during his recent visit to Dhaka, expressed India's commitment to a democratic, stable, and peaceful Bangladesh, and emphasized the importance of mutual respect and trust in strengthening bilateral ties. Misri also highlighted India's support in areas like trade, connectivity, energy, and capacity building for the benefit of the Bangladeshi people.
