Adviser Council Approves ICT Amendment Ordinance, 2025

The amendment aims to update the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973, making it more relevant to current times. The approval was given at a meeting chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, according to a media release from the Cabinet Division.

In addition, the Council approved the Sheikh Russell Rural Development Academy, Rangpur (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, which includes renaming the institution to Rural Development Academy, Rangpur to align with other similar institutions, such as the Rural Development Academy, Bogura and Bangladesh Rural Development Academy (BARD). This amendment is also subject to vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division.

The Council also approved the Bangabandhu Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development Academy (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 in principle. The amendment will rename Bangabandhu Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development Academy, Gopalganj to Rural Development Academy, Gopalganj, in line with other institutions under the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division. This approval is subject to the usual vetting process.

Furthermore, the Council cleared the Sheikh Hasina Rural Development Academy, Jamalpur (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, with the name change to Rural Development Academy, Jamalpur, aligning with the naming convention of other similar institutions. This also remains subject to vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division.

Finally, the draft National Identity Registration Act (Repeal) Ordinance, 2025 was approved in principle as a supplementary matter.
