Jatiya Nagorik Committee, ADSM Demand Ban on Awami League

Following Gazipur Attack Victim’s Death

The Jatiya Nagorik Committee and members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have called for a ban on the Awami League following the death of 20-year-old Abul Kashem, who succumbed to severe injuries from an attack in Gazipur.

During a rally at Dhaka's Central Shaheed Minar, which took place after Kashem’s Namaz-e-Janaza at 9 pm, protesters demanded that the ruling party be banned.

Speakers at the rally vowed that the people and students of Bangladesh would not rest until Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League were held accountable and legally banned from political activity.

Coordinator Rifat Rashid stated, "The Awami League has repeatedly shown itself to be a terrorist organization. Kashem is now a martyr, and if we don’t ban the party, more lives will be lost. The people of Bangladesh must have the choice: either an interim government bans them, or the public will take to the streets to do so."

Hasib Al Islam added, "No politics based on Awami ideology will survive in this country."

Abdul Hannan Masud remarked, "Six months after the uprising, we’re still holding coffin processions. The Awami League's violence continues to claim lives. What is the interim government doing about this?"

Masud further stressed, "On August 5, the people of this country ousted the Awami League. Now they must be banned legally, without delay. We will not tolerate Delhi-backed, India-oriented politics in this nation."

He urged intellectuals and political parties to align with the youth against the Awami League: "Do not stand in our way. The youth are against Awami League politics, and we demand that you stand with us."

Abul Kashem passed away at around 3 pm in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment.
