The National Consensus Commission on Tuesday held a meeting with Nagorik Oikya as part of its ongoing dialogue with political parties to build national consensus on key reform proposals.

The meeting was attended by Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, members Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Safar Raj Hossain, and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haidar, according to an official statement.

A six-member delegation of Nagorik Oikya, led by its General Secretary Shahidullah Kaiser, participated in the discussions.

Professor Ali Riaz emphasised that while political parties may have varying views, it is essential to find common ground on fundamental issues. He underscored the importance of constructive dialogue—not just among allies but also with political rivals—to move toward a unified national charter.

Key recommendations from the Constitutional Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Electoral Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission, and Anti-Corruption Commission were earlier sent to 39 political parties in spreadsheet form to collect their feedback.

To date, 35 political parties have submitted their opinions to the commission.

The commission launched formal discussions on March 20 to finalise the reform proposals. It has already completed the initial phase of talks with 25 political parties, including Nagorik Oikya.
