The dream of turning Bangladesh into Pakistan will never be fulfilled, said BNP leader Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, who is also a former power and energy state minister, on Thursday.

He made the remarks while addressing a view exchange meeting of his ward-level party activists at the Railgate area in Sirajganj.

“Over the past 16 years, they (Jamaat-e-Islami) were not active in the field. They could not observe hartal even when their leaders were executed. They merged with the Awami League. Now they are dreaming of turning our independent country into Pakistan. Forget dreaming—such dreams will never come true,” said Tuku.

Tuku categorically described Jamaat-e-Islami as invisible fascists who opposed the Liberation War and collaborated with Pakistan’s occupation forces.

Tuku said that the party was trying to mislead the people by saying that the separation of Bangladesh from Pakistan was an Indian conspiracy, reports UNB.

The meeting was presided over by BNP district vice president Selim Bhuiya and attended by other district BNP leaders, including general secretary Saidur Rahman Bacchu, vice president Nazmul Hasan Talukdar Rana, and joint secretary Munshi Zahed Alam.
