The BNP has announced a 10-day programme to observe ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’, marking the ‘civil-military uprising’ of November 7, 1975.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Sunday, following a joint meeting of the party and its associate bodies.
He said the observance will begin on November 5 with a discussion organised by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal and conclude on November 13.
As part of the programmes, party flags will be hoisted atop all BNP offices on November 7, while senior leaders will place wreaths and offer fateha at the grave of late president and party founder Ziaur Rahman at 10:00am.
The BNP’s Dhaka south and north city units will hold a rally the same afternoon, starting from Nayapaltan, while district and upazila units will organise rallies nationwide.
Other events include discussions, cultural programmes, photo exhibitions, educational material distribution among orphan students, and documentary releases across media and online platforms. Newspapers across the country will also publish supplements to mark the day.
On November 12, a discussion will be held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
Fakhrul said November 7 remains a significant date in Bangladesh’s political history, symbolising the unity of soldiers and civilians that paved the way for Ziaur Rahman’s rise to leadership and national reforms, reports UNB.
