Patuakhali: A coal-carrying vessel named MV Athena docked at Payra 1320 MW thermal power station jetty. Coal evacuation activities are going on at a fast pace since Saturday morning. Authorities can start power generation of one unit (660 MW) with this coal from tomorrow night.

Earlier on Thursday at three o'clock in the morning, the ship arrived at the inner anchorage of Payra port from Balikpanan port in Indonesia with 41 thousand 207 metric tons of coal. Some coal was discharged through lighters from yesterday morning. Later on Friday at 3 pm the ship was brought to the jetty of the thermal power plant by the port authorities.

On June 5, the power plant was completely shut down due to lack of coal. Concerned people think that load shedding in the country can be reduced a lot if Payra electricity production starts. - Gofran Biswas Palash
