Bangladesh Receives Over $2.4B Remittance in 28 Days

Expatriate Bangladeshis sent more than US$2.4 billion in remittances during the first 28 days of December in the 2024-25 fiscal year, according to data from Bangladesh Bank (BB). This significant influx highlights the continued importance of remittances to Bangladesh's economy.


Out of the total remittance for the month, state-owned and specialized banks received $782.27 million, while private banks accounted for a larger share of $1,631.36 million. These figures reflect the sustained contributions of Bangladesh's overseas workforce.

In total, for the fiscal year spanning July to December 28, worker remittances amounted to $13.56 billion, underscoring the resilience and critical role of remittances in supporting the country’s economy. The data also indicates a steady increase in the flow of funds from expatriates, which helps support domestic consumption, investment, and development projects.
