DMP intensifies measures to ensure public security

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has intensified security vigilance in the capital to maintain public security and keep the law and order situation normal.


“As part of the security steps, the check-posts and patrols have been increased in coordination with other members of the law enforcement agencies,” DMP Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Police Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman said in a statement today.

He added that police are firm to ensure the overall security and smooth movement of the people in Dhaka Metropolitan City.

According to DMP Crime Command and Control Center, a total of 500 patrol teams performed their duties in 50 police stations of the DMP in the last 24 hours from 12 midnight on Monday.

Besides, 54 police check-posts are being operated by the DMP at various important and strategic locations to enhance security in the metropolitan area.
 
In addition to the activities of DMP patrol teams, seven patrol teams of the CTTC, four of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and 10 of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) are on duty at various crime-prone areas of the metropolis to maintain public safety and maintain law and order.

Apart from the DMP check posts, the police's specialized unit Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has also remained vigil with operating 31 check posts, Talebur informed.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 248 people were arrested for their alleged involvement in various criminal activities from different metropolitan areas.

The arrestees include: 14 robbers, 16 professional snatchers, seven extortionists, 11 thieves, 22 identified drug dealers, 44 criminals facing warrant order.

During different drives, police recovered three small knives, four knives, one screwdriver, one iron axe, one machete and some other local weapons Besides, contraband items, including 49 kg 870 grams of marijuana and 704 pieces of Yaba were also recovered from their possessions, the statement mentioned.

In the last 24 hours, 59 cases were filed with concerned police stations. Legal action is underway against the detainees.
