Bangladesh to participate in 50 int’l trade fairs to boost investment, exports
Bangladesh will participate in 50 international trade fairs in 27 countries during the 2026-27 fiscal year as part of its efforts to attract new investment, expand exports and create greater opportunities for local businesses in the global market.
The decision was approved at the 149th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), held at the EPB conference room today with Commerce Minister and EPB Board Chairman Khandakar Abdul Muqtadir in the chair, said a press release.
Addressing the meeting, Muktadir said the government is working to create a more business-friendly environment to attract both local and foreign investment.
He expressed optimism that the results of ongoing reforms aimed at simplifying business start-up and operational procedures would become visible within the next two to three months.
He said the government is committed not only to announcing investment-friendly policies but also to ensuring the conditions necessary for their effective implementation.
Highlighting the country's export potential, Muktadir said priority sectors such as leather, agro-processing and light engineering have the potential to achieve double-digit growth and emerge as major export earners in the coming years.
He stressed the need to support new entrepreneurs and startups in accessing international markets, noting that many successful exporters had started on a small scale.
Young entrepreneurs often lack the financial capacity to explore overseas markets or establish contacts with foreign buyers, he said, adding that the EPB would play an active role in helping them build export capabilities and connect with global markets.
The board approved the EPB's international trade fair calendar for FY 2026-27, under which Bangladesh will participate in 50 international trade fairs across 27 countries, with a focus on 12 priority export sectors.
The meeting also approved the steering committee for the 31st Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2027, which is tentatively scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027.
In addition, the board took a policy decision to lease the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre (BCFEC).
Commerce Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan, EPB Vice Chairman Mohammad Hasan Arif, Additional Secretary (FTA) of the Ministry of Commerce Ayesha Akter and other board members attended the meeting, reports BSS.
