A historic milestone in trade relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh was marked today with the arrival of the first-ever direct cargo vessel from Karachi at Chattogram Port. The vessel, which has a capacity of approximately 2,300 TEUs, is carrying a diverse range of goods, underscoring the growing demand for direct maritime trade between the two nations, according to a press release issued on November 13.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof, hailed the direct shipping route as a significant advancement in strengthening bilateral trade and business ties between the two countries. He emphasized that the new maritime link not only promises to enhance the flow of goods between Pakistan and Bangladesh but also aims to foster greater regional connectivity and integration within South Asia’s trade networks.

The direct route is expected to streamline logistics, reduce shipping time, and lower costs, ultimately boosting economic exchanges and creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries. Maroof expressed confidence that this development would catalyze further growth in trade, benefiting industries and communities on both sides of the border.
