A 29-member delegation from the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), led by President Taskeen Ahmed, is set to depart for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today for a three-day official visit. The delegation aims to enhance bilateral trade relations between Bangladesh and the UAE, explore export opportunities for Bangladeshi products in the Middle East, attract foreign investment to Bangladesh, and strengthen economic diplomacy between the two nations, according to a press release.

Throughout the visit, DCCI members will engage in multiple business meetings and B2B sessions with key chambers of commerce, including the Abu Dhabi Chamber, Dubai Chambers, and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry. These sessions will provide a platform for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to showcase their products, explore joint venture opportunities, and discuss import/export interests with their UAE counterparts.

Notably, over 17% of non-resident Bangladeshis working abroad are based in the UAE, making it one of the largest labor markets for Bangladeshis globally. This highlights the strategic importance of the UAE in fostering stronger ties between the two countries.

The total trade volume between Bangladesh and the UAE reached nearly USD 2 billion in FY2024, with the potential for further growth in both trade and investment. Bangladesh offers an attractive investment climate, including a competitive investment framework, fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, favorable foreign ownership policies, tax concessions in various industries, and strong intellectual property protection. Additionally, the country benefits from a double taxation treaty with over 36 nations, including the UAE.

Dubai’s strategic location is also seen as a gateway for Bangladeshi businesses to tap into the expanding halal market in the Middle East. Furthermore, the UAE is positioned as a key partner for Bangladesh in securing long-term LNG imports, further strengthening energy cooperation between the two nations.

The DCCI delegation is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on February 28, 2025, following a fruitful engagement aimed at fostering long-term economic and trade relationships between the two countries.
