DP World Plans Investment Opportunities in Bangladesh

The meeting, which followed an earlier discussion in Davos, centered on DP World’s interest in investing in the New Mooring Container Terminal in Chittagong. This investment aims to alleviate congestion at Chittagong Port, reduce carbon emissions, and improve the efficiency of Bangladesh's maritime gateway.

"This is a land of opportunities," said Chief Adviser Prof. Yunus. "Come to Bangladesh and let's make this happen."

Bin Sulayem reaffirmed DP World's commitment to the partnership, saying, "Your prosperity is our prosperity. From Chittagong to Dubai to Africa—this is our shared dream."

The Chief Adviser also urged DP World to consider expanding collaboration in other growing sectors in Bangladesh, including fisheries, agro-processing, and halal meat exports. He emphasized the importance of skill development for Bangladeshi workers, assuring that proper training would be provided. "It's our responsibility to ensure our workforce is well-trained," Prof. Yunus stated.

Bin Sulayem responded positively, mentioning that UAE authorities are working on facilitating visas and providing support for skilled workers from Bangladesh.

Additionally, he revealed DP World’s plan to launch a "Bangladesh Mart" in the UAE, following the success of similar marts for Chinese and Indian products. "We want to showcase Bangladeshi products—wood, marble, agricultural goods—and bring them to the world," he said.

Special Envoy for International Affairs, Lutfey Siddiqi, also present at the meeting, noted that efforts are underway to resolve visa issues for Bangladeshi citizens.

DP World, a global leader in logistics and port services based in Dubai, has recently recruited nearly 500 Bangladeshi workers. The company is known for its expertise in port development, maritime services, logistics, and technology-driven trade facilitation.

SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed also attended the meeting.
