Narsingdi artisans busy with producing Jamdani shari on Eid

 The artisans generally make money before Eid as the demand of Jamdani shari increases in the city and other major markets of the country.
Rafiqul Islam of Doalotpur union launched Jamdani shari factory at his home in 1988 after receiving training. He now became self-reliant by producing the shari.
Seeing the profit of Rafiqul, a number of people in the union started weaving jamdani shari and see return.
     At present, there are 50 Jamdani weaving factories in Doalotpur union and over 300 artisans are working in those factories.
Local entrepreneur Abu Based of Doalotpur union said he has set up ten Jamdani Shari weaving factories for generating employment for many poor families.
Before Eid, the weavers are working day and night for more income.
Basad said various colored and designed Jamdani shari are being produced in the union.
Each of shari is being sold at Taka 5000 to 50000 in Dhaka and other district markets.
 Sources said most of the women here have now become skilled craftswomen decorating Jamdani shari with ornamental stitching, earning Taka 2000 to 2500 weakly and up to Taka 3000 to 4000 before the Eid festival.
Successful Craftswomen Salma, Anwara and Bilkis said they have achieved self-reliance through ornamental needlework in the Jamdani shari.
They said they earn Taka 8000 to 10000 monthly and in the Eid season, 12000 to 15000.
