Bangladesh on Wednesday received its first shipment of US corn since 2018, with 57,855 metric tonnes of yellow corn arriving at Chattogram Port.
The consignment, harvested during the 2025–26 crop year, was sourced from North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota, and shipped from Vancouver, Washington.
Officials said the arrival marks the first opportunity in eight years for Bangladeshi feed millers to access US-origin corn, widely regarded for its quality in animal nutrition.
A consortium of buyers from leading feed milling companies—Nahar Agro Group, Paragon Group and Nourish Poultry and Hatchery Limited—welcomed the shipment at the port. US Embassy Dhaka Agricultural Attaché Erin Covert was also present during the arrival.
An official of United Grain Corporation, a major US grain exporter, said the company was honoured to be part of the first US corn shipment to Bangladesh in nearly a decade.
The official added that the company looks forward to supplying US grains to Bangladesh in the coming years, strengthening trade ties and supporting the country’s feed and poultry sectors.
