Rail communication between Dhaka and the northern regions of Bangladesh was disrupted on Sunday afternoon after a coach of the Dhaka-bound ‘Chilahati Express’ derailed on the Dhaka-Tangail rail line in the Salna area of Gazipur.

According to Md Nadiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Joydebpur Railway Police Station, four wheels of a bogie veered off the tracks around 2:30 PM, halting train operations along the vital route.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Stranded passengers were seen disembarking from the train and continuing their journeys via alternative transport options.

Abul Khayer, station master at Joydebpur Railway Junction, confirmed that train movement across the northern routes via the Jamuna Bridge has been suspended until further notice due to the derailment.

Efforts are underway to clear the tracks and restore normal operations, authorities said.
