3 die after taking ‘toxic liquor’ in Rangpur

Three people have died and two others have fallen sick reportedly after consuming toxic liquor at Balarhat in Mithapurkur upazila of Rangpur district.


The deceased were identified as Sattar Mia, 50, son of Tamij Uddin, Hujur Ali, 45, son of Matiar Mia, and Saju Mia, 55, son of Kufur Uddin of the area.

Officer-in-Charge of Mithapukur Police Station Ershad Hossain said some people took toxic liquor at Balarhat Bazar on Sunday night, and after returning home, five of them fell sick.

Later, Sattar and Tamij died on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in the early hours of Monday while Hujur Ali died at the hospital in the morning, reports UNB.

Two more people were undergoing treatment at the hospital, the OC said, adding that legal steps will be taken in this regard.
