Two children drown in Gaibandha

Two minor children drowned in a pond at Purba Belka village under Belka Union of Sundarganj upazila in the district this morning.


The victims are identified as Srijon Kumar Das, 6, son of Nirasha Kumar Das and Kumari Binda Rani, 4, son of Bidhan Kumar Das of the village. 

Local sources said, the both children were playing beside a nearby pond of their house in the afternoon around 3 pm.
 
At one stage, Kumari Binda Rani slipped in the pond. Hearing Kumari's screaming, her cousin Srijon Kumar Das jumped into the pond to rescue her and 
drowned.
 
Later, their bodies were recovered from the pond after a hectic search. Necessary measures have been taken for their eternal rest, said Abdul Jabbar Dulal, a public representative of the union. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sundarganj Thana Shahin Amanullah confirmed the incident and said a team of the police from the thana was sent to the spot, reports BSS.
