3 people, including 2 children, drown in Rangpur
Three people, including two children, died in two separate drowning incidents in different parts of Rangpur district on Friday.
According to police and family sources, two children died while bathing in a pond near their home in Nazar Mahmud village of Kaikuri union in Pirgachha upazila around 10 am.
“The deceased are - Rajib Mia, 6, son of Sajeeb Mia, and Senatul Akhter, 4, daughter of Shahjahan Mia, from the same village. They are cousins,” said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirgachha police station AKM Khandaker Muhibbul Islam.
The two children went out to play together. When they did not return home after a long time, the family members got worried and started searching for them.
At one point, the locals saw the bodies of the two children floating in a pond near their home.
They were quickly rescued from the pond, but both children died by then.
In another incident, on Friday afternoon, Sihab Mia, 22, a college student from Darshana Sutrapur area of the city, drowned while bathing with friends in the Ghagot River in Panbari area of Rangpur city.
Since there were no complaints, police have handed over the bodies to their respective families, reports BSS.
