Two electrocuted in Nilphamari

Two people were killed and another injured after being electrocuted while catching fish in a pond in the Babur Bazar area under Sadar upazila here this morning.


The deceased were identified as Mojibur Rahman, 60, son of late Abdur Rouf of Bajitpara village in Panchapukur union, and Jalal Hossain, 58, son of late Mojibur Rahman of Mohabbat Bajitpara village in Kachukata union.

Mithu Islam, 35, son of Mojibur Rahman, sustained injuries in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at Nilphamari General Hospital.

According to police and local sources, the victims were catching fish in a pond when the electric wire of a water pump came in contact with the pond water around 9am. Mojibur Rahman was electrocuted and died on the spot.

Jalal Hossain and Mithu Islam were also injured in the incident. Locals rescued them and rushed them to Nilphamari General Hospital where the attending physician declared Jalal Hossain dead, reports BSS.

Officer-in-Charge of Nilphamari Sadar Police Station Md. Zillur Rahman confirmed the matter and said the bodies had been handed over to their families after completion of the necessary legal formalities.
