Youth dies after falling between train coaches in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Aug 14, 2026 — A young man died after falling between two coaches of a Titas Commuter train while trying to get down from its roof at Narsingdi Railway Station on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Amir Hossain, 28, son of the late Shamsul Haque of Nagar Baniadi village in Narsingdi Sadar upazila.

The accident occurred around 7:30am as the train was leaving the station, railway police, witnesses and the victim’s family members said.

Amir had gone to the Kella Shah shrine in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria, with two friends on Thursday afternoon. They stayed there overnight and returned to Narsingdi on the roof of the Titas Commuter train on Friday morning.

When the train reached Narsingdi station, people travelling on the roof began getting down amid heavy crowds.

As the train started for Dhaka, Amir apparently lost his balance while hurriedly getting down and fell between two coaches. The moving train dragged him for about 30 yards, witnesses said.

People at the station rescued him and took him to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where an emergency department doctor declared him dead.

Farida Gulshanara Kabir, resident medical officer of the hospital, said Amir was brought to the hospital dead. His body was handed over to railway police.

Amir’s friend Akram Hossain said the three friends had travelled together to the Kella Shah shrine.

“We could not get inside the train because of the crowd when we boarded it at dawn, so we climbed onto the roof. After reaching Narsingdi, two of us managed to get down, but Amir could not. He fell between the coaches after the train started moving and died,” he said.

Sub-Inspector Dilip Chandra Sarker of the Narsingdi Railway Police Outpost said the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy following their request. - UNB
