Man dies in custody of police's narcotics dept in N’ganj

Narayanganj, Sept 8 – A 55-year-old man reportedly died in the custody of the members of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) while interrogating him in a vehicle on Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Syed Nurul Karim,

Nurul was arrested by the members of DNC from a Dhaka-bound bus from Cox’s Bazar at Shimrail intersection in Siddhirganj area suspecting him as a drug smuggler in the morning.

Later, they picked him up in a vehicle on Dhaka-Chattogram highway. During interrogation, he died there.

The body was kept at the Khanpur 300-bed hospital morgue.

Assistant director of DNC, Muhammad Rifat, said he died from a stroke.

According to eyewitnesses, Kabir was arrested by the DNC members, led by its inspector Joynal Abedin, from a bus and picked up in a vehicle, with his hands tied.

They also gave Kabir a good beating. At one stage, he fell sick.

First he was taken to Pro-Active Medical College and Hospital but he died before reaching the hospital.

However, DNC inspector Joynal denied the allegation of beating Kabir. - UNB
