Rainfall will continue to occur across the country due to southern wind and continuous formation of thunderclouds over the country, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

“Due to westerly disturbances, thunderclouds are being formed over the country, resulting in more precipitation this time,” BMD assistant meteorologist Kazi Jebunnesa said.

She said the precipitation will continue to occur over the country till May 4 next.
She observed that pre-monsoon season has shifted a little bit and that is why more rainfall is taking place over the country in late April this year.

In the last 24 hours, the highest 160 mm rainfall was recorded in Nikli, Kishoregonj, followed by 151 mm in Bhola, 148 mm in Feni, 115 mm in Mymensigh, 114 mm in Khepupara, 103 mm in Cumilla and Sitakunda and 89 mm in Netrakona.

BMD today has given forecast heavy to very heavy rains in Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions in next 24 hours commencing 9 am.

It said moderately heavy to very heavy falls are likely to occur at places over Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, reports BSS.

“Light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at many places over Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions,” said met office morning bulletin.
