The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Friday advised all maritime ports to keep Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 hoisted as squally weather continues to affect the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas.

In a special weather bulletin issued on Friday morning, the BMD also instructed all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay to remain close to the coast and navigate with caution until further notice.

According to the weather office, the well-marked low-pressure system over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas has weakened into a low-pressure area and is now located over central Uttar Pradesh and nearby regions. The system is expected to weaken further gradually.

Despite the weakening of the low-pressure system, the BMD said a steep pressure gradient remains over the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas, creating favourable conditions for squally weather.

As a precaution, the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been instructed to continue displaying Local Cautionary Signal No. 3.

The weather office advised vessel operators and fishermen to closely monitor the latest weather updates and exercise caution while operating in coastal waters until conditions improve.
