Hearing in rape case against Hefazat’s Mamunul Haque

Two Police Officers yesterday testified in a Narayanganj Court in a rape case filed against Mamunul Haque, Joint Secretary General of the abolished committee of the Hefazat-e-Islam.

On Monday noon, recording the depositions of the witnesses begun in the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Narayanganj for the seventh day and Judge Najmul Haque Shyamal of the court recorded the depositions.

The two witnesses are- SI Kobayed Hossain and Borhan Dorje. Of the 40 witnesses, 15 testified so far.

Defense lawyer AKM Omar Faruque Nayan said that we would cross-examine the witnesses to prove the accused not guilty. However, Public Prosecutor of the court Rakib Uddin Ahmed claimed that the witnesses told the court, accused Mamunul Haque was directly involved with rape.

Mamunul Haque was taken to Narayanganj Jail on Sunday from the Kasimpur Jail. On Monday he was produced in the court for the hearing. Later, he was taken to Narayanganj Jail.

The case docket says on April 3, 2021, Mamunul Haque stayed with a woman in Sonargaon Royal Resort of Narayanganj. Later, Hefazat leaders and activists largely vandalized the resort and snatched away Mamunul Haque.

Later, on April30, the woman filed the rape case with Sonargaon Police Station of Narayanganj saying that Mamunul Haque raped her alluring her of marriage.

However, Mamunul Haque claimed her as his second wife. - Special Correspondent
