Women's Safety Key to a Modern State: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized that ensuring women's safety is crucial to defining a modern state. In a post on his verified Facebook page ahead of International Women's Day, he called for an end to extremism, hatred, and disrespect towards women. He urged the interim government to strengthen law and order to protect citizens, especially women.

Fakhrul reflected on the past 15 years, highlighting the suffering of women who endured the inhumane struggles of enforced disappearances, killings, and torture in their families. "The movement began in July with the women of Bangladesh, with people from all faiths—Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists—joining the cause," he said.

He expressed his vision for a Bangladesh where the primary duty of law enforcement is to ensure the safety of its citizens. He called for a society where every person, regardless of gender, age, or profession, feels secure walking the streets, with their dignity respected everywhere—from home to the workplace.

Fakhrul also denounced extremism, asserting that there is no place for it in a fascism-free Bangladesh. Reflecting on International Women's Day, he stated, "Women are partners in our development and progress. On the eve of this day, let's take action to accelerate our advancement."
