The first phase of the Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of the Muslims after Hajj, begins on the bank of the Turag River at Tongi, on the outskirts of the city on Friday and will continue until Sunday (January 15r.
This year’s Bishwa Ijtema will be held in two phases. The second phase of the Ijtema, will begin on January 20 on the same venue and end end with Akheri Munajat on January 22.
Amid conflicts between two Tabligh groups, Maulana Zubair Ahmad’s followers will join the first phase of the Ijtema while Maulana Wasiful Islam’s group will participate in the second phase, according to the organisers.
According to the organisers, the first phase of Ijtema will begin with ‘Aam Bayan (general sermons)’ to be delivered by noted scholars after the Fazr prayers on Friday and end with ‘Akheri Munajat (final prayers)’ on Sunday.
The Islamic Foundation issued directives on Monday to hold the Ijtema successfully, duly preserving the law and order, religious and social harmony and upholding the country's image to the foreigners, who will join the congregation.
The Islamic Foundation requested the officials concerned to make sustained campaign at all mosques across the country, to ensure that no propaganda or provocative remarks were made or activities were carried out against the Ijtema.
It also asked the authorities concerned to make campaigns during pre-Khutba sermons before Juma prayers as well as before and after the five prayers at all mosques to make the ijtema successful.
Earlier at a meeting held at the home ministry on October 13 last year with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in the chair, the schedule of Bishwa Ijtema was finalised and the law enforcement agencies were asked to ensure peace and security during the Ijtema.
After a break of two years, due to the pandemic the Ijtema would be held this year in a limited scale.
