Yunus Attends UNGA with Only 7-Member Team
In a notable departure from former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's practice, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) with a modest 7-member delegation.
According to a notice from the Chief Adviser’s Office, Yunus's team will include his daughter, Deena Afroz Yunus; Debapriya Bhattacharya, a member of the economic white paper committee; Shahidul Alam, Managing Director of Drik; Lamiya Morshed, Principal Coordinator for SDGs Affairs; Mahfuj Alam, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser; Shabbir Ahmad, Assistant Private Secretary to the Chief Adviser; and Aysha Siddique Tithi, a BRAC University student.
In contrast, Sheikh Hasina attended the 70th UNGA in 2015 with a large 227-member team, and her 2014 delegation comprised 178 members. Her delegations typically included ministers, PMO and foreign ministry officials, as well as business representatives. Dr. Yunus's smaller team for the 79th UNGA notably excludes any interim government advisers.
